HB1504 was originally written to ban recreational trapping. It has been changed by the sponsor Kathryn Stack of Merrimack to Establish a committee to study banning recreational trapping. Make no mistake, her intention is to ban trapping. This is a backdoor attempt to ban recreational trapping. This committee would be required to meet 45 days after law is passed and to submit its recommendations to the legislature by Nov 1. Committee members will be made up of three representatives and two senators. This committee can seek information from any individual or group with information relative to the committee’s objective. Fish and Game and Fish and Game Biologist were left out. I would ask you to call and or E-mail every Legislator on the Fish and Game and Marine Resources Legislative Committee and ask them to leave wildlife management to the Fish and Game Department and to Kill this Bill. Ask the landowners where you get permission to trap to call also. If this bill passes this, it will take away their right to manage furbearers on their land at no cost. Trapping is humane and the only way to successfully control furbearer populations. Below is a list of the Fish and Game and Marine Resources committee members and contact information. There hearing on HB1504 will be in the Statehouse February 18 at 2:00 pm in LOB in room 305-307. If there was one day worth taking a day off from work to attend it would be this one. If this bill passes trapping will be banned.
